Aqua Resilience: Sustainable Water and Climate Action
Supported by MetLife Foundation and CAF America
In the remote tribal villages of Bandwan Block, Purulia, water scarcity is not just a seasonal challenge—it’s a way of life. The Aqua Resilience: Sustainable Water and Climate Action program, supported by MetLife Foundation and CAF America, brings hope and transformation by turning this challenge into an opportunity for sustainable change.
Implemented by Centre for Environmental and Socio-Economic Regeneration (CESR), the initiative integrates solar-powered water systems, rainwater harvesting ponds, agroforestry, and drip irrigation to ensure year-round access to clean water and to strengthen the community’s resilience to climate stress.
Beyond infrastructure, the program focuses on community empowerment—training local residents, especially women, to maintain and manage water resources through Village Water and Sanitation Committees (VWSCs). By combining innovation with inclusion, Aqua Resilience is creating healthier environments, improved livelihoods, and stronger climate preparedness in Purulia’s most vulnerable communities.
What began as an effort to secure safe water is now a model of climate-smart development and social equity, demonstrating how collective action and partnership can make resilience a lived reality.
